Paula Mele
My husband, Tony and I have been married for 27 years. We have 2 sons Toby and Zack. God changed my life forever when I met my husband and had our two sons. Both sons are successful men having loving relationships with ladies, who will become our future daughter in laws soon!
My husband a USMC Veteran, served with the 542 Tigers Harrier Squadron, one of the most deployable squadrons on base. His Squadron was key during the Gulf War for strategic air support. He spent 6 months deployed right before the Gulf War, came home for 2 weeks, then deployed for 9 months, working around the clock to ensure the Harriers were operational for air strikes during Desert Storm.
Soldiers come back with physical and emotional affects from conflicts they serve. My husband came back a very different spirit. Little was know about PTSD – we have lived it for 27 years. I am so proud of my husband for taking steps to address the emotional injuries that impacted him during his military and law enforcement service 20 years combined.
During Desert Storm, I volunteered with Military Family Services as a Key Wife, the American Red Cross and 22nd Dental Air Wing to ready the troops for deployments. Soldiers must have complete dental records for health reasons and recovery identification. Today I continue to volunteer and advocate for civilians and military constituents via local, state and national leadership.
